It's more than a house. It's an adventure.

The beat goes on

The W3C has released the first working draft of XHTML 2.0. I haven't even gotten into 1.0 yet.

My computer is back online!

And all I have to do is reinstall everything. I can't even count how many reboots I've been through already for Microsoft.

More Kevin Smith!

Learned tonight that Kevin Smith has another movie on the way, Jersey Girl. And it stars, shockingly enough, Jason Mewes, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason Lee, George Carlin, and Ben Affleck - all Smith-movie veterans. I've enjoyed all his previous offerings (yes, even Mallrats) and will definitely run out to see this one too.

And on a related note (since J.Lo is in the movie as well), Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are now dating? WTF? Half the time I think these Hollywood "romances" are just publicity stunts.

The perils of the truck

I love my truck, but when it comes time to pay the piper (wash & wax), I wonder why I bothered getting it. I spent all day on the thing and I'm exhausted. At least it looks OK now...for a day or two anyway. Black is impossible to keep clean.

I am, however, now a convert to the wool wash mitt and California Water Blade. The mitt worked amazingly well (my parents always had me using those big soft sponges; never seemed to work well) and the Blade literally wipes the water off your vehicle - so much faster and better than drying with towels. The Blade was a little sticky in spots, but I imagine with a recent coat of wax on the finish, it'd be much smoother.

Allergies

So this is the punishment I get for being outside all day and having the windows open because it finally cooled off tonight? A nose full of snot and eyes watering like the sprinklers on a PGA golf course?

Cancelled!

I was due for some training at work this upcoming week. 4 days, in-house, but I'd basically be unavailable the whole time. Found out a couple days ago it was cancelled and we'd be doing it differently, and at a different time. It's a mixed blessing. I really need the time to get other things done, but I need that training too. Back to the book while I'm on vacation, I guess.

Have you noticed on Google?

I've been using Google since it first hit the scene and they just keep improving it. Just now I finally realized that they even give you search tips with your results. The one I just got was:

Tip: In most browsers you can just hit the return key instead of clicking on the search button.
Yeah, most people already know it, but I see so many people who don't, and they could save themselves probably 15-30 minutes each week using that tidbit instead of stopping, grabbing for the mouse, and then hunting for the button.

Now, if they'd just make these more prominent, and maybe cook up a few dozen of them to get more rotation, people might really get streamlined.

How (not) to make friends and influence people

Saw a note on Dave Winer's Scripting News about the Don't Link to Us! project. They're collecting "links to sites that attempt to impose substantial restrictions on other sites that link to them" and some of them are downright asinine. I wonder if Tim Berners-Lee ever anticipated this. It's maddening. I'll just keep ignoring those policies.
