This is one sick city

This week I learned that 85% of kids under the age of 15 in this city are sexually active. 37% under twelve are. 12 years old!? Come on! Actually, I want some clarification on that stat, it's just too damn high to believe. Specifically, what defines "sexually active" for their purposes.

Something like 24% of people in the city are functionally illiterate. 16% are entirely illiterate. I don't recall the exact breakdown but it was something like that.

I have a friend whose wife works at one of the city middle schools. She confiscates weapons and "contraband" on an almost daily basis. The stories she tells about these 7th-graders are mind-boggling.

And just tonight on the late news the leading story was about 2 guys breaking into a house early Friday morning, dragging a nine year old girl out into the backyard, and taking turns assaulting her. How mentally screwed up do you have to be to do something like that? She doesn't even want to go back to her house, her entire family is afraid to sleep alone (everyone's in one room), and they have their friends patrolling the street at night.
